Ways To Celebrate Parent's Day As A Family

July 26, 2015

It can be tough to find time to spend together as an entire family, but Parent’s Day on July 26 may be one day you’d like to set aside a few hours or more for family time. Instead of searching for the perfect gift for your parent or guardian, consider setting aside some time together to create memories that will last a lifetime.

Ideas For Teens And Their Parents

During the summer, teenagers are often busy with friends, sports, shopping, dating, or maybe even working summer jobs. It can be difficult to get a teenager to commit to spending some down time with the family, but if you suggest doing something fun in honor of Parent’s Day, they won’t be able to pass up the opportunity. Depending on your family’s interests, you may enjoy doing the following teenager-friendly activities as a family:

  • Visit a local water park or amusement park.

  • Take a weekend camping trip or head out of town for the day to do some sightseeing.

  • Head to the beach and do some grilling.

  • Go bowling as a family.

  • See a movie together. This month, your family may enjoy movies such as "Minions," "Terminator: Genisys," "Ant-Man," or "Pixels."

  • Get dressed up and head to the city to see a play.

  • Try a new restaurant that nobody in the family has tried before.

  • A few weeks before Parent’s Day, decide on a book that the whole family will read and then get together to discuss it on Parent’s Day.

  • Go mini-golfing or head to the driving range.

  • Visit an art museum or outdoor sculpture garden.

Ideas For Adults And Their Parents

Once your kids grow out of the moody teenage years and enter their twenties, they are usually more willing to do things together as a family. Your kids may even suggest these ideas to you rather than you having to go to them!

  • Tour a winery or brewery and have a wine or beer tasting.

  • Fill your backpack and go on an all-day hiking trip somewhere new.

  • Take a painting or pottery class together.

  • Have a family dinner and ask every person to make something different to share.

  • If your family is into adventure, go bungee jumping or skydiving.

  • Go jet skiing, parasailing, or take a hot air balloon ride.

  • Go snorkeling or visit the beach.

  • Take scuba diving lessons.

  • See a movie at a drive-in theater.

  • Go berry picking and make your own homemade jam together.

  • Have a campfire and make s’mores, like your family did back in the day.

Make A Donation Together

You may be storing an unwanted vehicle in your driveway or garage because of all the memories that are attached to it. Maybe it’s the vehicle that you used to teach your children how to drive, or maybe it’s the first vehicle that you ever owned. It could be the vehicle that took your family on numerous road trips and adventures. It can be difficult to get rid of a vehicle that has helped to create so many great memories, but what if you knew that your vehicle could help to create memories for a child with a critical illness?

When you donate a car, truck, boat, motorcycle, RV, or other vehicle to Wheels For Wishes, your donation benefits Make-A-Wish and helps to grant the wishes of children between the ages of 2 ½ and 18 who are battling critical illnesses. If your family cannot make use out of your family car, donate it to charity and your vehicle will help to grant wishes for kids in your community.

To donate a car, please call 1-855-278-9474 or fill out our easy online vehicle donation form. Your car donation makes a difference!
